  • “Not just customers, but creators of services!”

Posted by blackpoolcommunitynews on July 25, 2008

“We’re not just customers, but creators of services” stated Nicole Burke, Chair of Blackpool Young People’s Council at the launch of Blackpool’s Sustainable Community Strategy today. Her comments referred to the role that young people were able to play in the town which was more than just being beneficiaries of regeneration. Her comments were warmly received by those attending the upbeat function at the De Vere Hotel.

Earlier Ruth Lambert, a CVS representative on the Blackpool Strategic Partnership had reminded the audience that the third sector was at the decision-making table by entitlement because it had an important contribution to make. That contribution was huge, vital and innovative.

Both speakers added to a very positive event to launch the new strategy.

The Event started with a rousing version of Oh, Happy Day! by Bispham High Gospel Choir.  And  indeed it was a happy Blackpool Council Leader and Chairman of Blackpool Strategic Partnership Councillor Peter Callow who lauded the publication of the strategy which heralded £750 million public and private sector investment into Blackpool over the next 5 years.

The strategy Your Blackpool, Your Future aims to set out a shared vision for the future around 4 key goals:

    1. Improve Blackpool’s Economic Prosperity – creating jobs and opportunities for local people.
    2. Develop a Safe, Clean and Pleasant place to Live, Work and Visit.
    3. Improve Skill Levels and Educational Achievement
    4. Improve the Health and Well-Being of the Population.
