  • Grants for new ideas on getting people involved in democracy

Posted by blackpoolcommunitynews on August 4, 2008

£150,000 is available to develop projects that help people discuss public issues and influence the Government and its policies.

But the Innovation Fund on Building Democracy is different from most funding programmes in that ideas are expected to be raised for public discussion first. The discussion on the website should provide an opportunity for others to develop the ideas into better proposals.

The first ideas floated on the website include proposals for web forums, a magazine, a travelling office and community radio.

Applications have to be submitted by 26th September.

Blackpool has an urgent need for an LGBT Centre. Manchester, London, Glasgow, Edinburgh etc etc ALL have an Lesbian & Gay Centre and there seems to be no positive campaign here for the LGBT people in Blackpool to have an centre where they can go to meet others, away from the bars and clubs, and where they can also access health services and many other services within one centre and stop fear of homophobia.

I often here around Blackpool that LGBT people wont want their own specific services, when there is no proof from these people on the gay scene and off BUT with stats i have up till now and rising daily, LGBT people with an alcohol problem would only ask for help if there was an LGBT alcohol service within the town. I am sure that this will be same in other areas of the community.

YES … It is about all living together in the community BUT this is not all rosey and the way we would like to see everyone live and we need to stop dreaming.
