    Interested in Schools Blogging Project?

Posted by blackpoolcommunitynews on December 12, 2008

This article has been reproduced from Blogging Blackpool. It has been done so with a very clear proposal: Are there any schools locally that would like to establish a version of  the project outlined here? Please leave a comment or e-mail blackpoolcommunitnews@gmx.com

lend-your-voice-blog-snipLend Your Voice is one of those truly remarkable blogs that you discover during your internet browsing treks that makes you forget what you were looking for in the first place!  But this blog written by and featuring young people’s thoughts, views and experiences was well worth the break in journey.

Lend Your Voice has been established ‘to let every young person from Northern Ireland express their ideas and opinions, whatever their background.’

Despite being Belfast based, the Blog attracts posts from young people from all over the UK (and possibly internationally – still reading!). It has obviously engaged with schools for blogging news and poetry projects. It also benefits from the support of Youth News agency Headliners.

This Blog is surely an inspirational use of Blogging…. so are there any inspired Fylde Coast readers out there who would care to inspire such a venture locally!?

The Prince’s Trust – Princes Trust Community Cash Awards are grants of between £250 and £5,000 to help young people set up a project that will benefit their community.

They need an idea for a project that will improve life in a local community. Maybe a new basketball court, a music studio, a youth club, sex education workshops in schools, a youth advisory board, even a local magazine.

The Cash Awards are for projects managed by young people:

    • aged 14-16 and in school, but struggling, OR;
    • aged 16-25, unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week.

Note: The following are not eligible for support:

    • Formal groups or organisations
    • Expeditions or overseas travel
    • Fundraising activities for charity
    • Trips and outings, unless they have educational value

A World Class Youth Centre in Blackpool – You help decide!

Posted by blackpoolcommunitynews on August 8, 2008

FOR UPDATE TO THIS ARTICLE CLICK HERE

As part of a strategy to create three youth ‘hub’ facilities in Blackpool North, Central and South, the Blackpool Children’s Trust Board is exploring opportunities of bidding for a grant of between £1million and £5million to build a World Class Youth Facility adjacent to Palatine High School. A bid would have to be submitted by 30th September.

It is important that the way facilities for young people are planned and delivered includes the role and influence of young people and a high level of genuine cross-sector partnership working in relation to the bids being put forward. This means involving young people, local and town-wide communities in helping to drive forward the planning and design of any proposed Centre and ensuring the activities taking place there are what young people actually want and would use.

We need YOU to get involved whether you are a young person or an adult on:

    1. What would be important to you in the youth hub?

    2. What type of services should it provide?

    3. What activities should be available?

    HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

Simply log on to Blackpool Council web site www.blackpool.gov.uk and click on to the news items and complete the Blackpool’s New Youth Centre bid questionnaire or click on surveys via the quick links.

If you want to be more involved you are also invited to attend a consultation event at Blackpool Football Club on Saturday 06 September from 10.00 to 12.00 or 1.00 to 3.00

Let us know that you are coming (then we can make sure you have drinks and biscuits) by contacting Stuart Dunne or Fiona Jones on Blackpool 754840 or email fiona@rubothered.co.uk or just turn up on the day.

Blackpool SURF has published a page about Myplace and the Consultation on Blackpool4me (click here).
